- The Trafford Centre is the largest out of town regional centre in the north west of England. The centre is anchored by Selfridges, Debenhams, Marks & Spencer, Primark and a 20-screen Odeon cinema. In Autumn 2005 John Lewis opened a new department store. It has the largest food court in Europe with seating for 1600. It attracts 30 million shoppers annually. The centre is located 8 km to the west of Manchester (catchment area: 3 M within a 30 minute drive). "Barton Square", the 10.000 sqm extension dedicated to housewares opened in 2008. In Nov 2010, CSC acquired the Trafford Centre from Peel Holdings for 1,6 Bn £. The centre is now called Intu Trafford. The centre is currently under redevelopment/expansion. Peel will develop next to it Trafford Waters, a mixed-use development including nearly 63.000 sqm of commercial and leisure area and 3.000 homes. Opening scheduled in 2018.
